How You Met In early 2007, Katie and Ryan were introduced by a mutual friend at Dr. Dremo’s in Arlington, VA while Ryan was visiting Washington DC for a job interview. Both Katie and Ryan are originally from New England, so they immediately bonded over their shared background and their affinity for their hometown sports teams. The two remained friends for a couple of years, but in 2010, they started spending more time together and something changed. In early spring of the same year, Katie mentioned how much she missed New England food, and Ryan seized the opportunity to invite Katie over to cook a lobster steam pot for what they would later recognize was their official first date.

The Engagement Nearly three years later, Ryan took Katie to Annapolis to propose. Katie had no idea Ryan had even been ring shopping! Annapolis is a long-time favorite getaway for the couple as it reminds them of the colonial towns back where they grew up. After an Easter-morning brunch, Ryan suggested he and Katie take a walk to the edge of the pier to take a photo, per their tradition during every Annapolis visit. Katie remembers it was cold and overcast, so she and Ryan had the pier to themselves. After a failed wind-blown selfie, Ryan took out the ring, got down on one knee, and asked Katie to marry him. When she finally said yes, Katie and Ryan made their way to Armadillo’s, where their family friends and the owner were waiting to celebrate with flowers and champagne.

What was unique and special about your wedding Aside from all of Katie and Ryan’s families and friends being in the place at the same time, the couple would agree that the personalized touches made their wedding unique. Since they could choose all of their own vendors, Katie and Ryan were able to focus on the details: the homemade seersucker table runners, the lobster trap card box, the corn hole set, the dingy beer cooler, the guestbook painting, their officiant, the playlist, the cocktails and even the food!

Favorite Details Ryan’s: the bride and groom lobster cake topper, the DJ’s custom playlists and on-the-fly mixes. Katie’s: the guestbook painting that she and Ryan made and seeing the decor that 2hands provided, which in her eyes, really brought the wedding together.

Most unexpected event on the day of the wedding It poured the day before Katie and Ryan’s wedding. During the rehearsal, Adriana from London Town warned them that even though the forecast called for sun, the lawn may still be too wet to support the chairs for their wedding ceremony. Adriana told Katie and Ryan that she would wait until the absolute last minute to set up for the ceremony in hopes that they could still enjoy the lawn overlooking the inlet. However, when Ryan and Katie were on the trolley to London Town, they still had no idea whether they were getting married on the lawn or if the ceremony had to move inside. Katie and Ryan were overjoyed when they turned the corner into London Town and saw the lawn all decked out for the wedding.
