Planning my own wedding has been the ultimate passion project. As a fantasy creator and costume enthusiast, I was inspired by Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, coquette aesthetics, and of course the bow trend that’s been sweeping the wedding industry. My theme was a mix of “let them eat cake” and “tying the knot.” I asked all of my guests to wear pastels but also attached a mood board full of Pinterest coquette outfits and makeup inspiration for those who wanted to dress in costume.
The dreamy Cylburn Mansion is a wedding venue nestled in the middle of a gorgeous arboretum. The mansion’s front room looks like it came straight from a movie. I sourced silk florals, vintage porcelain figurines, busts, vintage tablecloths, and lots of feathers to bring the vision to life. I was also able to incorporate sentimental touches including a beautiful portrait of my late grandmother, Eileen, many of her collectibles; and the cake table; which has been passed down in my family for generations. My baker made an eggless cake and two traditional cakes to bring the theme to life.
The entire day was perfect from start to finish, with heart shaped champagne glasses, tea sandwiches, and lots of games and love.
The final touches included custom artwork of my fiancé, Jack, me, and our dogs (drawn as little knights.) The bows, welcome sign, and other templates were purchased on Etsy. Each guest received a thank you letter, lace hand fan, and a bow name card as favors.
For my look, I worked with designer Meg Beck to create a one-of-a-kind dress. I paired it with a satin corset, Vivienne Westwood accessories, and a stunning pair of House of Elliot lace boots. My hair was inspired by Rococo fashions with makeup reminiscent of the powder and beauty mark trends of the past. – Sarah James Middleton
