Behind the Scenes: Cake Cover

Have you seen our new Baltimore Bride cover? It’s one of our favorites! Artist Dani Wagner was a joy to work with and painted the background canvas for the shoot with a beautiful watercolor palette plus some metallic gold and tonal embroidery. The other (very important) aspect of our cake cover? The cake! We were lucky enough to work with Erica Harrison from La Cakerie.

Erica created each flower by hand! And worked tirelessly to get the gold *just right* for a very picky editor and art director. (Ahem.)

We sometimes take for granted the beauty that shows up at our photo shoots. This is a nice reminder of the steadfast work that goes into everything we put in the magazine. Thank you Erica! (And Dani!)

We first contacted La Cakerie in June 2013. Our cover was shot in September 2013. A few days before the shoot we went to visit the cake to make sure we were all on the same page and check out colors/shades/shapes. (And we always leave La Cakerie with sweets. The dangers of this job!)

Not only is Erica one of the most talented designers you’ll ever come across (she was at Charm City Cakes prior) but also one of the nicest.

Erica came to our shoot at Gary Landsman’s studio in Cantonsville to make sure every flower was perfectly placed.

We are so proud of this cover! HUGE thanks to everyone who took the many HOURS to make it perfect.
