Local Love

Brittany & Conor

This originally ran in the 2024 Local Love supplement in the July issue of Baltimore magazine.

Wedding Date June 10, 2023

Brittany Livingston and Conor Prunty met through mutual friends when they were both living in Manhattan, but their interactions never went beyond casual conversation. That is, until they found themselves strategically placed next to each other (by those same friends) at another gathering and ended up talking for four hours. “We spent the rest of the night barhopping, dancing, laughing, and getting late-night Prince Street Pizza,” says Brittany, a business developer. The two went on their first official date in October 2017 and “we haven’t gone more than a few days apart since,” says Brittany. (The moral of the story: Let your friends set you up.)

When it came time to propose, Conor knew he wanted to be in Lake Placid, a historical, small town in upstate New York where his parents own a house. It’s where Brittany first met Conor’s large, extended family and where Conor first told Brittany he loved her. The town took on an even deeper meaning during the pandemic, as Conor, who is in financial sales and trading, was able to work remotely. The couple spent four months isolated in Lake Placid with Conor’s two younger brothers. “It started to feel like a second home to both of us,” says Brittany.

When Conor suggested they visit his parent’s house on a glorious fall weekend in October 2021, Brittany thought nothing of it. By chance, a wedding ceremony had just finished on the lake. As they approached the dock, Brittany said, “Wow—what a beautiful day for a wedding.” Using that as a segue, Conor smoothly said, “Do you know what else it’s a beautiful day for . . . ?” and got down on one knee. It’s a Lake Placid tradition that after a wedding on the lake, the couple takes a cruise in a vintage boat. Conor decided the proposal needed a boat ride, too. “It was perfect,” says Brittany.

She wanted that same wind-in-her-hair feel for the wedding day—a summer celebration on the water. The inspiration was a “garden party-esque cookout,” says Brittany. “Something relaxed, colorful, and simple, while still elevated. We kept asking ourselves, if we could host a few friends for dinner in our hypothetical backyard—we live in a 700-square-foot NYC apartment—what would that look like?” Turns out it looks like St. Michaels’ Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, a still-active shipyard with a collection of Chesapeake Bay artifacts, exhibitions, and vessels; loads of flowers; and a nod to Brittany’s home state.

They held their ceremony outside on the lawn (luckily, the orange hazy smoke from the Eastern Canadian wildfires cleared out that morning), cocktail hour in the small boat shed, and the tented reception on Navy Point, the tip of the peninsula.

Minutes into the party, Conor accidentally stepped on the train of Brittany’s dress, ripping the bustle. Without missing a beat, Brittany quickly slipped into her short, party dress she was planning to change into a few hours later—a smile never leaving her face. “Guests will feed off the couple’s energy,” she says. “If the couple is having a great time, so will everyone else.”
