How You Met They both were VIP guests to witness NASA’s last flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery and shared a vacation house with 13 strangers who were also there to watch the launch. Sophia and Gavin had an instant connection and spent the week at the Kennedy Space Center and on other adventures while they waited for the shuttle. By the end, they were inseparable.

Wedding Design Inspiration Sophia and Gavin’s wedding was a reflection of their mutual love of outer space, Sophia’s love of crafting, as well as their quite different family backgrounds. The couple’s wedding invitation suite featured a starry night sky motif and the cake topper read “To the Moon and Back.”

What Was Unique and Special About Your Wedding Day It was completely in keeping to our personalities–bright and colorful with a touch of the classic. The choice of deep blue table linens and indigo table numbers rounded out the nod to outer space. Sophia and a group of friends dip-dyed all the table runners and she also silk-screened the welcome totes by hand. They skipped all of the usual wedding traditions (nobody tossed a bouquet and there was no chicken dance) and threw a really great party for the people they love. They were lucky that all of their favorite people were there to celebrate—some of them came from really, really far away!

Most Unexpected Event On Your Wedding Day There weren’t really any unexpected events—their amazing planner, Heather, had everything in hand. They were surprised by how much everyone loved the photo booth.

Piece of Advice Take a step back and try to take everything in a couple of times during your wedding. It goes by super-fast!
