“We met at the bar—though not the kind you’re probably picturing. These were the gymnastics kind: horizontal metal ones nine feet in the air. We were both members of Gymkana, the gymnastics performance troupe at the University of Maryland. Sydney came from a lifelong dance family—her grandmother started a dance studio, her mom, Lisa, carried it forward, and Sydney now runs it as a thriving competitive dance team. So, when Lisa suggested we have our wedding at the Hippodrome Theatre, on the same historic stage where so many iconic performances have been held, there was no other option. In a unique twist, our guests sat on stage facing the ornate theater, forming the backdrop to our glittering chuppah at the front of the stage. Not to be outdone by the theater itself, we made sure our first dance would be unforgettable. Not so much dancing as flying and flipping through the air—a performance that was truly the stuff of legends.”
