The Engagement When Sarah and Gianmarco were first talking about getting engaged, Sarah made very clear that she did not like the idea of a big spectacle, or showy display. So, when he was planning to propose, Gianmarco wanted to do something low-key but classy. Months later, while going on a short walk through Patterson Park before a dinner reservation at One Eyed Mike’s, Gianmarco got down on one knee. He proposed in front of the Pagoda which is a special landmark for them. He had also arranged for a photographer to be waiting in the bushes and capture the whole proposal. Sarah was absolutely delighted.

Wedding Design Inspiration A little bit Art Deco, with nods to the city where we live. When we were considering venues, Guilford Hall’s old industrial brewery vibes perfectly represented what we were going for so we leaned into that.

What Was Unique About Your Wedding Day We got to incorporate Flower Mart into our wedding weekend and our photos. Baltimore has been a huge part of our love story, so it featured prominently in the wedding weekend. We had a lot of family and friends traveling in from out of town and we wanted to showcase what we see as the best of Baltimore. We wanted them to see the beautiful parts of the city and understand why we chose to establish our lives here. We were delighted to find out that Flower Mart was happening the same weekend, and right outside Hotel Revival. It’s such a beautiful festival and a fun daytime activity for guests staying in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood. Gianmarco’s boutonniere is made from flowers that our friend bought and had made down at the market on Saturday morning. We were praying the weather would cooperate so we could get “first look” pictures down by all the action and we are so glad we did.

Favorite Details Aside from showcasing the city we love, we just wanted to throw a really good party. Gianmarco and several of our guests work in the alcohol industry so we made sure we had good drinks and plenty of them.

Sarah chose to walk down the aisle to Queen’s “Somebody To Love” which we felt was unique. And we had our officiant take a selfie during the ceremony with us and all our guests in the background and it turned out to be one of our favorite photos from the day.

The Cigar Lounge in Guilford Hall was a great backdrop for family photos but also for the men to smoke a few cigars together towards the end of the reception.

Piece of Advice:Hiring a day-of coordinator made a world of difference for us. We didn’t stress about little things and logistics because we had confidence in Aubrey and she made every so easy for us. (Thank you Aubrey!) Also, if you are doing a formal first dance at the reception, consider dance lessons (in the wedding shoes you are planning to wear—that part is crucial). We took several lessons and it gave us a lot more confidence.
