How You Met We met through mutual friends playing Bingo at Smaltimore in October of 2018. It seemed we knew everyone in this tight knit group but each other. As fate would have it, when Morgan walked in, there was only one seat open at the table—right next to Tomasz. Little did we know we would be sitting next to our future forever that night. We always joke that we came home with the best prize of all.
The Engagement Tomasz proposed in March of 2022 at Broadway Pier in Fells Point. It was a windy day and slightly chilly, and just the two of us out on the pier. It was absolutely perfect. We were so happy to have Jenna Davis Photography there to capture our engagement so we can forever look back on that moment in time.
Wedding Design Inspiration We wanted a wedding that was memorable down to the last detail, and had elements that were totally unique that our guests may not have seen at other weddings they’ve attended. We told Emily that our non-negotiable was for everyone to have the most fun night of their lives. When we toured the Winslow, we knew it was the perfect blank canvas to create our dream wedding. Between the fun industrial elements and the unique layout of the space, we knew it would tie in perfectly to those whimsical details we had in mind. We have a love of travel, so we wanted to lean into that theme with small touches that highlighted our adventures throughout the space. Our escort card display and the luggage tags which served as place cards and wedding favors for our guests were just some of the details we incorporated. Since we didn’t have our ceremony at the Winslow, we knew that the Train Room would be the perfect space to turn into our own dance floor and lounge after dinner, so everyone would have plenty of space to dance and mingle. In a way, our guests were immersed in the travel section of the reception, with the destination after dinner being the incredibly fun disco party Emily and her team created.
What Was Unique and Special About Your Wedding Day With Tomasz being born in Poland, we wanted to make sure we included a perfect blend of both American and Polish wedding traditions throughout our day, honoring both of our upbringings. We were married at Holy Rosary Church in Upper Fells, a Polish catholic church, and had our ceremony half in English and half in Polish. We also incorporated the traditional Polish Bread and Salt welcome, where the newlywed couple, upon entering the reception, are presented with a specially decorated loaf of bread, representing prosperity, and salt, to remember life’s hardships. We were then handed two shot glasses, one filled with water and the other with vodka. In this tradition, the bride chooses first, and it’s said that whoever unknowingly picks the vodka is the unofficial head of household. We then tossed the glasses behind our heads, shattering them to signify good luck in our marriage. And of course, we had the DJ play a ton of Polish Disco Polo music throughout the night!
Favorite Details Our escort card display was truly our favorite detail. We have been so fortunate to travel to some incredible places together, making memories throughout our relationship, and we knew we wanted to share that with our guests. Enter, Babinski International, our own airline check-in desk complete with flight attendants who handed out “boarding passes” to every single guest. Those boarding passes displayed their name, table assignment and the date our newest adventure began. Everyone absolutely loved the interactive seating chart. It was such a fun surprise for our guests, especially when they got to their seats to see their very own luggage tag with their name printed.
Our head table was absolutely stunning and truly took our breath away. We knew we wanted to create a massive focal point in the room, and it did not disappoint. From the textured linens and early autumnal color palette to the hanging greens and lanterns, all tied together with the stunning blush chairs, our head table was truly a masterpiece.
Our guestbook was also unique to our travel experiences. Instead of a traditional guestbook, we had a globe for everyone to sign, as well as vintage postcards for guests to write personalized messages. Many guests chose to write over a place on the globe that was either special to them or to us, which perfectly represents the theme of sharing adventures together that we were hoping to capture. The globe is currently on display in our home so we can see those messages every day.
We also loved how personal and intentional everything felt. Between the hand-drawn signature cocktails and nightcap drink signs that Morgan’s sister crafted, the disco ball swizzle sticks complete with our initials, and the piece of vintage luggage with our last name on display, there were so many thoughtful and small details that made everything come together so perfectly.
Most Unexpected Event On Your Wedding Day The surprise we had in store was something no one expected. With the exception of the bride herself, her father, her sister (maid of honor) and her best friend (matron of honor), no one knew what was in store once the dancing portion of the evening began. They secretly choreographed a dance routine right after the Father/Daughter dance, transitioning smoothly into one grand surprise. Morgan’s sister and dad choreographed all of the steps, filming the routine and sharing it so Morgan and her matron of honor could memorize the moves through a sort of virtual dance lesson. Not only was it loads of fun, but it was truly a hysterical moment. Even though we never had the chance to practice it all together, everyone hit their marks while smiling and laughing. The best part though, was seeing the biggest surprised smile on Tomasz’s face.
Piece of Advice Don’t let your head get in the way of your heart, especially when it comes to your special day. Make bold choices, go with your gut, and lean into your unique style without letting fear of being judged stand in the way. There were so many times we doubted ourselves for fear of what others would think, but our vendor team made us feel confident in our decisions and the directions we wanted to go in, as well as helping us step outside our comfort zone, creating our perfect vision that was 100% authentic to us. Originally, we told our planner we wanted to stick more to neutral colors, but the more we chatted, and the more Emily understood us, she encouraged us to lean into colors, patterns and textures instead of being safe, to heighten our vibrant personalities. Having a team that really understood us and our vision was key in making the day unique to us and our desires.
