Wedding Date October 5, 2024

It just so happened the day they were engaged Casey Black and Matt Barrett spent the morning touring a wedding venue on the Eastern Shore just in case.
When they returned to her parents’ home in Easton later that day, Matt proposed on the dock overlooking the water. His parents surprised Casey soon after, and they spent the rest of the day celebrating with both their families. The two had met over a Cape May weekend in 2019 through their respective childhood friends, who are married to each other.
“I was immediately drawn to his warmth, sense of humor, and humility,” says Casey, a director of product management at Vistar Media. When the weekend ended and they went their separate ways—Casey back to New York City and Matt, now a customer success manager at Dakota, to Philadelphia—she found herself missing someone she had only just met. “I think that’s when I knew he was someone I never wanted to spend a day without.”

Their wedding—yes, held at the Eastern Shore venue they had toured that fateful morning—celebrated that sentiment and all the things that make both of them happy. “We wanted our wedding to feel vibrant, lighthearted, and full of fun,” says Casey. She layered shades of blue and green with intentional pops of orange throughout the venue and her bridesmaids truly set the tone by selecting their own dresses. “Their bold prints and lively hues inspired many of the design details woven throughout the day,” she says. This carried through to the florals, linens, and stationery, too. “Keeping that cohesive thread made every design decision feel purposeful and ensured the overall look came together seamlessly.”
Since they were celebrating on the Eastern Shore, they wanted to weave in a few coastal touches. Matt’s love of oysters became a key source of inspiration and a logo featuring their hands toasting with two oysters appeared on their programs, napkins, and matchboxes.

On their wedding day, they were lucky enough to have a spectacular fall sunset and almost everyone left dinner and gathered down along the shoreline to take it in across the Miles River. The two of them walked down to the water in tandem.
“My biggest advice is to stay close to your partner throughout the day. It sounds simple, but it’s so easy to
get pulled in different directions,” says Casey. “Be intentional about sharing the moments in unison—when you look back, you’ll want to remember the joy of experiencing it all together.”
