How You Met Jennifer and Andrew work in the same building and met in November of 2011 through a mutual friend, Amy, during a fire drill. After the fire drill, Amy was very excited and wanted to set up a time for them all to get together. Amy asked Andrew whether he was interested in a double date before he had even sat back down at his desk. The group got together for the first time about two weeks later over Thanksgiving weekend . . . the rest is history.
The Engagement Andrew’s family has a river cottage at Thousand Islands in Gananoque, Ontario that has been in his family for 60 years. The cottage means the world to Andrew and after several trips over the years Andrew knew Jennifer had fallen in love with the place too. The couple even started their own tradition with friends – every June the group takes a trip to the cottage for a getaway. It was during one of these June trips that Andrew decided he would propose and resisted telling anyone that his plan was to propose to Jennifer before dinner down by the dock. As luck would have it right at the time of the intended proposal, Jennifer and Andrew’s guy friends were fishing shirtless on the dock (not the most picturesque moment!). Plan B went into effect and Andrew called Jennifer into the house. As she walked into the room that overlooks the river, Andrew was down on one knee waiting for Jennifer. It took Jennifer a few minutes to stop crying and say, “yes.”
Wedding Design Inspiration The wedding was at Andrew’s uncle’s house, which has always been a special place to Andrew. The house is a country home from the 1800s and the entire property stands as a gorgeous sanctuary from the busy world. Jennifer and Andrew wanted to play on that setting by keeping it simple and elegant and allow the landscape to be the natural “design.”
What was unique and special about your wedding: Andrew is a horse-racing fan, and the couple’s wedding day happened to be the same day that California Chrome was trying for the Triple Crown. Although Jennifer and Andrew didn’t do it on purpose, the ceremony ended just in time for Andrew to catch the race. So right after the ceremony, most of the wedding party, plus about 40 other wedding guests packed into the living room to watch the race. (He didn’t win.)
Favorite Details The couple really loved and appreciated being surrounded by so many people they love. On the day of the wedding the weather was beautiful, the reception was at an incredible location, there was an epic dance party (Soul Session really kept the energy level going and the dance floor was packed all night) and last but not least – the amazing photos taken by Michael Stavrinos to remember such a wonderful day. (“Mike was absolutely incredible, and we can’t overstate how much he added to the wedding in terms of positive energy and being a part of the celebration without interrupting it.”)
Most unexpected event on the day of the wedding The power went out at Jen’s parent’s house the day before the wedding. Fortunately the utility company fixed the problem in time and the girls were able to get ready there as planned.
