Keri Singer and Chase Schultz’s love story began on the 12th floor of an office in McLean, Virginia. “Because nothing says romance like fluorescent lights and after-work TGI Fridays,” jokes Keri. The two started talking over elevator run-ins and loaded potato skins and began to fall in love. When it came time to propose, Chase, a software engineer, knew he wanted it to be a bit more romantic than their meet cute—so he proposed under the Northern Lights in Finland. “Seemingly everyone knew it was going to happen on this trip—but me,” says Keri. They spent their first week as an engaged couple on an unforgettable trip through the Finnish Lapland.
They wanted the wedding to be as extraordinary as that vacation—and chose the Oaks Waterfront Hotel in Easton for their 80 guests. Every detail was fresh—including a color palette of chartreuse bridesmaid gowns and pops of purple—but also subtle enough to let the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay shine. “We wanted shades of green, coastal, and a little bit whimsy,” says Keri, who works in corporate finance.
The day of the wedding, the Eastern Shore was experiencing the initial impacts of a strong nor’easter with light rain, mist, and increasing wind speeds. But Keri and Chase were still able to get married outdoors—their guests tucked under umbrellas—and even go out on the hotel’s Overcomer, a 40-foot Hinckley yacht.

The reception cured any weather blues with sculptural floral arrangements, hanging greens, and patterned linens that created a bright, immersive, and contemporary atmosphere. Other highlights included a late-night grilled cheese and tomato soup snack, and slipping into a black bodice and voluminous white ruffled skirt paired with white sneakers for the reception. Says Keri, “The clichés hold true—stick together as much as you can and don’t forget to eat.”
Afterwards, everyone gathered around the firepit for an epic after-party. For Keri and Chase, looking around and seeing their friends and family laughing, talking, and interacting with each other was as magical as the aurora borealis. Says Keri, “There’s nothing more special than watching your different worlds of people collide.”
