Madelyn Kirsch and Aaron Perseghin connected on a dating app in 2017 and had their first date a few days later at W.C. Harlan, where they shared cocktails and pictures of their dogs. That canine love continued with their engagement, when they went on a picnic with the dog they now shared, Tiffany, at Druid Hill Park’s Zen Garden.
Their wedding took place in the same park, at the Rawlings Conservatory, and they wanted it to feel “intimate, warm, and full of love,” says Madelyn. She and Aaron, an IT engineer at Health Care for the Homeless, asked friends to help with various components. “From the flowers to the music, they really delivered and made our day feel so heartfelt and intimate,” she says.
In the hours before the ceremony, Aaron and Madelyn made her bouquet together with the flowers plucked from their garden, primarily Solidago and Lonicera. “The two of us designed and planted the garden a few years earlier, when we bought our home, and have since spent many hours nurturing it and watching the visiting pollinators,” says Madelyn, who also owns Great Blue Co., a native landscaping company. “We felt complete bliss to be out there picking flowers for our day.”
Another special touch was Madelyn’s vintage dress, which had last been worn in 1969. “The previous owner relayed that it was the start of a long and happy marriage, which made it feel so special to wear,” she says. The sunshiny fall day also included her older brother, Steven, playing the piano while they walked down the aisle, a fully vegan wedding including dinner from NiHao, and, of course, Tiffany the dog. “She attended the ceremony,” says Madelyn. “She even got to walk Aaron down the aisle.”
