Number of Attendants None. Although we did not have a wedding party, we were still able to get ready and take pictures with some of our closest friends.

How You Met We met in 2008 on my first day working at Patterson High School. Rudy was starting his fourth year teaching and he helped me prepare for my first year as a teacher.

Piece of Advice Plan the wedding you want. Not what everyone else wants. Our friends and family were skeptical of some of our somewhat non-traditional ideas, but those details ended up being the most fun parts of the day!

The Engagement Rudy proposed while we were vacationing in Jamaica. He was planning an elaborate proposal later on in the trip, but after the anxiety of traveling to Jamaica with the ring in his wallet, Rudy popped the question as soon as we arrived at the hotel. I was in complete shock. I had no idea he had talked to my parents or that there was even a ring.

Wedding Design Inspiration Our goal was to create an intimate, romantic, and fun atmosphere. While we got married in the fall, we wanted to stay away from the typical fall colors. Instead, we wanted softer colors with lots of garland and greens, and hints of gold.

Favorite Details There were so many! I loved being able to incorporate my dad’s Airstream into the day. I was also obsessed with the Natty Boh and champagne bar, because nothing seems more fitting to us. And I loved the tote bag favors my cousin made, with a drawing of our dog, Biscuit, on them. We love seeing our family and friends still using the totes to this day.

Most Unexpected Event On Your Wedding Day The weather! We had planned to have the ceremony and cocktail hour outside, and dinner and dancing inside. We even had a tent planned in case of rain, but with the amount of rain we had that week, and a possible hurricane, it was decided two days before the wedding that a tent was no longer feasible. We had to move everything inside the barn, and the barn being a tight space, made the idea of this a bit scary. Luckily, we were able to start setting up at the venue two days before the wedding. We spent that Thursday trying out different setups until we came up with the perfect plan.

What Was Unique and Special About Your Wedding Day It was amazing to see all the unexpected things that fell into place as a result of the weather. The day started on the right note when my friends that helped me get ready all randomly showed up wearing navy blue dresses and hunter boots. I could not have picked more perfect ‘bridesmaid’ dresses.

Next was the insanely romantic and magical feel of the barn with all the extra flowers and furniture originally planned to be used outside. The florist also created a beautiful last minute indoor chuppa, which we decided to leave up for the entirety of the night to make things less chaotic – so the head table ended up being under the chuppa which was pretty cool. We also lucked out with our ceremony. It certainly wasn’t the original plan to have guests sit at their tables and stand during the ceremony, but it was perfect. The ceremony ended up being much more intimate and much more “us” than the original outdoor plan.
