Throughout what she thought would be a two-week hibernation during the early days of COVID, Priscilla Korompis and her roommate spent their evenings drinking way too much wine and socializing the best way they could—swiping on Hinge. When Nathan Strzelczyk commented on her funny quip about braving the supermarkets, she showed interest, but Nathan accidentally (he swears) gave her the wrong phone number. Eventually, they became modern-day pen pals (lots of texting) before braving the outside world to meet up. Nathan brought wine and a book by science fiction novelist Brandon Sanderson for them to read and Priscilla brought a measuring tape, as a joke, to make sure they stayed six feet apart. Eventually she let him into her quarantine bubble.
After an engagement at the Sagamore Spirit Distillery that involved a complicated ruse including her best friend dressed as a teenage boy running toward them to capture the proposal (you had to be there), it was time to start wedding planning.

“I wanted there to be a lot of color, texture, and depth, and for all of the elements to showcase our fun personalities,” says Priscilla. “I’m a branded environment designer, so I wanted the day to feel like a multi-layered experience full of personalization.” That meant lots of details that felt exclusively like them as a couple. “We had a surprise ring bearer, where we had someone hide our wedding bands underneath a random seat,” laughs Priscilla. “Everyone was so excited to check under their seats to see if they had it. It ended up being my cousin, who is actually the first family member of mine that Nathan was able to meet because of COVID travel restrictions. It couldn’t have been a better person.” Priscilla also designed Old Bay-inspired T-shirts that they tossed out to their guests on the dance floor. “We love games and some friendly competition, so it was fun to see our guests battle it out for some T-shirts,” she says. “A lot of people changed into them as the night went on and wore them to our after-party.” And the night ended with a late-night ramen snack bar—Priscilla’s favorite. There were also caricatures of all the guests, a Blades of Glory fire and ice dance, and an after-dinner toast with Yakult, a probiotic beverage that Priscilla grew up drinking (her family is Indonesian). The original supermarket they were working with forgot to place the order, but the day before the wedding, Nathan, a financial analyst, drove to H Mart and found enough bottles. “He saved the day.”
Altogether, it created the perfect night. “Instead of following all of the predetermined wedding timelines and traditions, we opted to create our own special moments,” says Priscilla. “We planned the day as if we were planning a party first, and I think it’s what made it feel fun and alleviated a lot of pressure for us.”
