Part of the inspiration behind the handmade element of our upcoming wedding is my love of being a crafty, Martha Stewart-wannabe. But, another big part is our budget. Usually, when you make something yourself you can save a lot of money. So, I began to create our wedding flowers with paper, floral tape, and determination.
I was really surprised at how gorgeous the flowers turned out. You really only need a few things to make these. So, luckily they are not a big budget investment. However, they are a huge time investment: the above white ranunculus took me 4 hours to make. Multiply that by 5 bouquets and 8 centerpieces and I’m pretty sure that equals a panic attack. So, I had to surrender and wave the handmade white flag on this one. And I’m okay with that. But, those of you with much more patience and time, here is the DIY I followed to make the ranunculus.
The attempt to do this project was a really great lesson for me. The biggest takeaway being that the amount of wedding inspiration online today is overwhelming! Some of the DIY tutorials look so simple and straightforward, but looks can be deceiving. I am much more selective now when deciding what projects I am going to try out. For me it has been a matter of balance. My advice to you take on a few projects that you really love and will add a distinct element of your personality and let others go. Maybe take a little break from Pinterest…trust me it doesn’t hurt. I think my fiancé would be happy if I gave it up all together, but I’m pretty sure that will never happen.
