Bride Bite: Tying the Knot on Stress

One in an occasional series on nutrition.

A guilt free guide to eating your stress away from fresh food pioneer Amanda Mack

From the moment he pops the question, until the second you say I DO, there are hundreds of things to be crossed off your bridal checklist. Like finding the perfect venue, the perfect dress and even the perfect love line to close out your vows. As a bride to be, you’re months away from marrying your best friend and the countdown has begun when you can officially put that Mrs. at the beginning of your first name.

Now as exciting as planning a wedding can be, some brides find the process is very stressful and overwhelming; and stress is no friend to a soon-to-be-bride. Stress can cause dreadful side effects like insomnia, fatigue, mood swings and worst of all changes in appetite.

When it comes to fighting stress what you eat and drink can play a major role in your mood.

Eat and Drink your stress away with this guilt free guide of superfoods that tackle stress, drinks that stimulate endorphins and a wellness routine that regulate those raging emotions.

GO HULK with a super green salad that tastes great and will leave you feeling refreshed.

Try a Kale Salad with Spinach, Almonds, Cucumbers and Tuna. Greens are packed with folate, producing dopamine to help you keep calm.

CARBO-Hydrate

When planning your big day don’t be afraid of eating carbs. Certainly stay away from honey buns and large extra cheese pizza, but they’re some good carbs out there too! Since stress causes a spike in glucose, try a Complex Carb like Oatmeal to regulate and prevent spikes in sugar. Oatmeal is a superfood great at keeping you feeling satisfied in-between meals.

OMG Omega 3

OMG did you know that Salmon is loaded with Omega3 Fatty acids which have anti-inflammatory properties and is full of protein? Salmon is packed with benefits and helps produce serotonin which boost your mood almost instantly.

Feeling BLUE?

Blueberries have tons of antioxidants and are great at boosting immunity, helping you stay cold free and radiant on your big day. Blueberries are also great over fresh squeezed lemon juice which enhances mineral absorption. Try a low sugar remedy at home using organic Lemons, Blueberries and raw Agave.

GO NUTS!

Need help thinking your way out of a sticky situation? Go Nuts… Walnuts that is! Eating Walnuts and Pistachios give your brain and boost and are great for digestion. Try nuts as a snack or sprinkle them on top of your favorite dishes.

SHOTS Anyone?

As tempting as a cold shot of tequila sounds, I recommend staying away from spirited drinks in your times of stress. Instead try an earthier drink that packs a mean punch and really awakens your senses, Ginger! Ginger has amazing anti-viral, anti-septic, anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties.

Incorporate these tips into your normal routine, add in a little cardio to get you’re your circulation flowing and you’ll be well on your way to a stress free wedding day!
