Let’s be honest here . . . good coffee is serious business. It is the most basic of offers and really permeates every social situation since, well, forever! We begin the day with a cup, have one while catching up with friends in the afternoon, and sip on one at the end of the evening with a slice of dessert. So at the end of your wedding, as the music dies down and guests start to shuffle to the doors and head home, why not give them one more surprise – meet Lucky Cup Espresso Truck. As we all know food trucks have become quite popular (and practical) on the wedding reception scene, so as an alternative to greasy late night, consider a warm replenishment instead. Because who can resist a solid caffeine jolt (to counter all those signature drinks.) Baltimore Bride got the scoop from one of Lucky Cup’s owners, Kelly, on how this fabulous idea came to fruition. – as told to Allie Rosenwasser.
It all began about two years ago, when Kelly had committed to driving herself 15 minutes out of her way to pick up “the best lattes she had ever had” each morning before work. Kelly’s neighborhood was home to many coffee shops but once you hit gold, you tend not to question it. Little did Kelly know that her daily trips to the coffee shop would mean more than a good caffeine boost! The “exceptional barista,” whom Kelly had come to know, had taken an interest in her in the meantime, and had secretly been drawing hearts on Kelly’s paper cups and hiding them under the hot sleeves! A first date quickly ensued, and the couple is now engaged.
During their early stages of dating, the pair had a shared dream of one day opening a coffee shop together. Between her partner’s passion for coffee and Kelly’s business acumen, their idea for a shop evolved into an espresso truck; before long, they decided to take the leap and get those wheels turning! The mobility factor came in the form of a USPS delivery truck, and immediately they got to work designing, building, and organizing. Nine months later, the Lucky Cup Espresso Truck was born!
“We feel there is so much opportunity to be creative with coffee,” says Kelly. “Since opening in April of this year, we have offered lattes, cappuccinos, and cortados flavored with butterscotch, blueberry, apple-rosemary, lavender, and cardamom. We are committed to making all of our flavors, chai, and baked goods from scratch, and using only grass-fed cows’ milk.”
Ok, you had us at creative, but the partners took their truck one step further by offering baked goods in addition to their coffee service. Flavors so far include: lemon, lavender, mint sugar cookies, nutella-stuffed brown butter cookies, pecan and pie spice biscotti, mini gluten-free apple cinnamon bread loaves, chocolate-dipped espresso shortbread. But be prepared to see new treats added to the menu in the future, “I’m always working on developing new recipes,” Kelly says.
Lucky Cup Truck attends many of the food truck Gathering events around Baltimore, and have recently signed on to attend the Baltimore Museum of Industry Farmers’ Market on most Saturdays. If you want to catch the truck in action, here are some dates and times to find it:

But that’s not all – “We also offer to create custom drinks for weddings and special events. For a recent wedding, we created a cardamom and lavender cortado, and rimmed the glass with lemon.” Forget the magic school bus … we’ve got Lucky Cup Truck.
